Patrick L. Lockett is seeking the Zone 7 seat on the Pine Bluff School Board. He has has filed a petition to become a candidate in the Nov. 5 general election.
Lockett serves as pastor of New Community Church, where he has been for 21 years. He is also the city of Pine Bluff’s code enforcement director and owner of Heavenly Touch Detail Shop.
Lockett is a husband, father, grandfather and an active and engaged community supporter, according to a news release.
“I’m running for school board because I believe that all children deserve the best possible education,” he said when asked why he’s running for the school board.
He and his wife of 37 years, Janice Marie Lockett, are proud products of the Pine Bluff School District, both graduating from Pine Bluff High School, and have four children and several grandchildren who are also products of the district.

“Due to his involvement and work with youth at New Community Church, and youth throughout the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County community, he knows first-hand the challenges that students and teachers face in the educational system,” according to the release.
“He understands the importance of a well-rounded education, that not only addresses academics, but mental health, social well-being and belonging, and the often-complex emotional needs of adolescents.
“He is committed to creating excellent educational opportunities for all students and will bring his passion, community experience, and commitment to the Pine Bluff School District Board of Directors,” according to the release.
Lockett’s experience as a community advocate and business owner helps him to understand the importance of strong partnerships between schools, families and local businesses.
“He also has a deep passion for education and a strong track record of community service and is excited to bring his experience and commitment to this very important role,” according to the release.
He has worked with diverse communities and understands the importance of collaboration and teamwork.
“If elected, I will bring the same level of dedication and expertise to the Pine Bluff School District Board of Directors and will work tirelessly to build stronger relationships between parents, schools, and the broader community of stakeholders to provide opportunities for our students to excel and prepare for their bright futures,” Lockett said.
Some of the most important qualifications for Lockett to serve on the school board are his personality, professionalism and ability to work well with others.
“All these qualities are important, when serving with other board members who are accomplished, trained, committed, and focused primarily on student success and the short and long-term growth and development of the Pine Bluff School District,” according to the release.
Early voting will be held at the Jefferson County Courthouse Oct. 21 through Nov. 4. The general election will be held Nov. 5.
