Local man a father gone too soon, family says

Devan Ward of Pine Bluff is remembered as a person with aspirations for his future that included college.

Ward, 21, was murdered on April 7.

His mother LaShone Ward remembers her son as a good person.

“He was a sweet-hearted person,” Ward said. “He was loving and trustworthy. He left behind three children — two girls and a boy. His oldest daughter is three, the second child is two and his son is 11 months old. He is going to be missed. He was born on Feb. 26, 1991, in Milwaukee, Wisc., at 6:50 in the morning. His father is Christopher Rovon Ward and he has three sisters.”

Ward said that her son was planning for his future.

“He was attending a GED program at UAPB,” Ward said. “He was working on a CD and getting ready to produce.”

Devan Ward’s aunt, who goes by Ethel, remembers her nephew as a fun-loving family man.

“He was sweet, always a good kid,” she said. “He was never disrespectful to his elders. Basically he was a good kid. I know everybody says that about their relative but he was a good kid. He just chose the wrong friends. He was a comedian. He liked to entertain people. He was also a father of three and had three sisters. He had family who cared for him and did things for him. He was always at family functions. His main goal was to attend UAPB. He was a good kid that got with the wrong crowd.”

Funeral services for Ward will be Saturday at 11 a.m. Arrangements are being made by Pine Bluff Mortuary Co.
