Lakeport, Alex Foundation to observe Architecture Day

LAKE VILLAGE – In observance of World Architecture Day, Lakeport Plantation and the Alex Foundation will host a reception and lecture from 5:30-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, at Lakeport in Lake Village.

The event is free and open to the public. The lecture will feature Alison Turner, director of community education and an assistant professor at the Fay Jones School of Architecture at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.

In 2008, Turner began her tenure at the U of A teaching design studio, environmental technology and elective courses focusing on issues of sustainability and housing, according to a news release. She also began Sitio Architecture + Design, highlighting residential and commercial projects with an emphasis on regional, environmentally responsive, and sustainable architecture.

According to the release, Turner is interested in the origin and evolution of regional architecture and how past models can merge with contemporary ideas about the nature of environmentally responsive architecture.

“Turner received her Master of Architecture degree from Parsons School of Design, where she was awarded the Alpha Rho Chi medal and her Bachelor of Interior Architecture from Kansas State University, where she was the graduation speaker representing Interior Architecture,” according to the news release.
