The Blues By Budweiser concert series will feature the Kurt Allen Band at 8 p.m. March 7 at RJ’s Grill & Bar, 128 S. Main St.
The doors will open at 7 p.m. Port City Blues Society members are admitted free. Regular admission is $5. The concert series is being sponsored by MK Distributors, according to a news release.
“For over a decade, Kurt Allen has been fusing gritty old school blues, vintage soul, swampy bayou funk, and more into a relentless blues-rock machine. His songwriting reflects craftsmanship honed by years of commitment, and his albums take the listener on an unforgettable ride to almost every corner of the blues universe,” according to the release.
His latest release, “Live From The Red Shed,” is classic modern blues-rock.
“A true road warrior with a hardcore touring schedule that saw him playing 150-200 dates a year, Allen — like everyone else (during the covid pandemic) — was derailed for most of 2020-21 as the live music world shut down, but as soon as things began to open back up he was burning up the miles all over the lower 48. And, by the good graces of the Blues gods, he also ended up with a stellar live recording from The Red Shed in Hutchinson, Kan.,” according to the release

Over nine tracks, Allen showcases songs from his entire catalog, along with new and previously unrecorded ones.
“‘Live From The Red Shed’ is an unfiltered testament to the power of live blues,” according to the release.
The album debuted at No. 2 on the Top 50 Blues-Rock Album Chart and has been in the top five since its release. Hailing from Kansas City, Mo., Allen is a 2021 Independent Blues Awards triple nominee with airplay on more than 100 radio stations and Blues programs throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe.
Port City Blues Society, which promotes the concert series, is an affiliated member of The Blues Foundation. It seeks to preserve and promote blues music and the culture of Delta blues and educate the public about the history of the blues in the region. Port City Blues Society also hosts a free weekly blues jam every Wednesday from 8-11 p.m. at RJ’s Grill & Bar.
