The millage initiative for the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Library System sends a powerful message for educational upgrades and opportunities.

I am a native of Altheimer, where the family, church and school were the most important institutions in the community. I had the unique opportunity to attend school with some of the brightest scholars in the state of Arkansas. We were taught by some stellar teachers.

Presently, the only educational facility in Altheimer is the library; moreover, it is the only educational facility in Jefferson County north of the Arkansas River.

Our children and adults deserve the opportunity to enhance their knowledge base. Technology is a powerful tool; however, I am a lover of books and print media. We need access to all of the tools of learning to become viable in this global society.

Think globally, but act locally. I encourage all voters to support the millage initiative. Thank you for your support.
