Kiwanis Club to host pancake supper

The Kiwanis Club of Pine Bluff will hold a pancake supper from 4-8 p.m. Friday, March 17, at the Pine Bluff High School cafeteria.

The all-you-can-eat dinner includes pancakes, syrup, sausages, milk, juice and coffee for $7 per person. Children’s tickets are $4 and children under five years old can eat for free.

Also, as part of the event, the club is asking for donations of hats, gloves and socks for the many children in the Pine Bluff area who don’t always have them.

“Numerous charitable organizations gather coats during the summer months to give to needy kids when school starts and colder weather hits, but often they also need (hats, gloves and socks.) We’re asking that you donate these items and bring them to the pancake supper. We need all sizes and for all genders and ages. They will be stored and given to school leaders who see the children daily,” John Henry, president of the club, said in a news release.

The Kiwanis Club, after a hiatus of many years, is once again getting back into the pancake business.

“The Kiwanis Club of Pine Bluff held a popular all-day pancake day for many years as one its annual fundraisers to support youth activities,” Henry said. “A drop in membership forced the club to halt the event, but now it is starting back with a supper. Everyone loves pancakes, and nationwide it is a traditional and well-known fundraiser for Kiwanis Clubs – and has been for decades.

“So come on out and enjoy a nice supper on a spring evening, while supporting a great service organization,” Henry said.

Proceeds from the event will go toward establishing a Key Club at Pine Bluff High School and a Circle K club at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff as well as help fund scholarships.

Advance tickets are available from a Kiwanis Club member or by calling John Henry, president of the club, at 870-788-7504.
