Kelley named KingFest Parade marshal

Marshall Kelley, a local businessman of 40 years and director of Brown Funeral Home for more than 30 years, has been tapped by the Interested Citizens for Voter Registration Inc. (ICVR) to serve as the grand parade marshal for the 30th annual KingFest Parade.

The parade is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, in downtown Pine Bluff.

In addition to being an entrepreneur, Kelley is involved in the community through his support for youth and other worthwhile programs, a spokesman said.

“The years of faithful and unselfish work, not only in the Pine Bluff community, but throughout the state of Arkansas makes Mr. Kelley worthy of this honor,” said Shirley Washington, KingFest parade chair.

The KingFest MLK Marade/Parade will line up in front of the Jefferson County Courthouse at 1 p.m. Jan. 20 and begin at 2 p.m. The parade will travel south on Main Street to Eighth Avenue and east on Eighth Avenue to the north steps of the Pine Bluff Civic Center where the ICVR King Team youth will conduct a short educational program.

Church vans, organizations, school bands, walking groups, social and civic clubs are encouraged to participate. The parade theme is “Mentor A Child, Save A Life.” Prizes will be awarded for the best banner or float.

Applications may be picked up at 2315 S. Olive St. Forms may also be faxed or emailed upon request. For additional parade information call 535-7520 or 692-4402.
