Mrs. Jessie L. Slater departed this life, May 1, 2014. She was born July 26, 1924 in Noble Lake, Ark. to the late Cassie Lawrence and Mae Liza Rayford Lawrence.
She accepted Christ at an early age. She loved praying and singing.She was a member of the Holy Temple Outreach Church until her health failed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Columbus Slater, a daughter, Geraldine Walker Thomas, two grandsons, Michael C. Hudson and Dennis D. Hudson; six sisters, Gladys Hogan, Augusta Daniels,, Emma Park, O.T. Lawrence , Earnestine Lawrence Overs, and Margaret Lawrence McBride ;two brothers, James W. Lawrence and Fred Busby.
She leaves to cherish her memories, a sister, Rose L. Davis; five grandchildren, Wanda Hudson(Roy), Sheila R. Thomas, Troy L. Witherspoon, Michael Witherspoon, and Sherry Witherspoon all of Pine Bluff, Ark.;11 great grandchildren, and nine great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, at 11 a.m. at the P.K. Miller Mortuary, with Reverend Billy Walker, officiating. Interment will be at the Forest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, at the mortuary.
