James Simmons


James Martin Simmons, age 90, of Pine Bluff, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2012.

He was born December 18, 1921 at New Edinburg, a son of the late Henry James Simmons and Mattie Lee Sims Simmons. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, and retired from the Cotton Belt Railroad. Mr. Simmons was also a charter member of the Simmons Deer Club.

He was predeceased by his wife, Louise Beckwith Simmons; his son, James Martin Simmons, Jr.; along with four brothers and five sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Mattie Chavis and Patsy Borecky; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Simmons; son-in-law, Wayne Borecky, all of Pine Bluff; nine grandchildren, Doug Chavis, Stephanie Hill, Joel Chavis, Carrie Schwindt, Shala Simmons, Martin Borecky, Melissa Koonce, Angie Brown, and Jamie Hurst; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be Friday, 10:00 a.m. at Fuller Hale-South Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in Moore’s Church Cemetery at Rison, with his grandsons serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
