A second jailer has been arrested in connection with bringing contraband into the Jefferson County jail, according to the Sheriff’s office.
At approximately 6:30 p.m. on Friday, investigators with the Tri-County Drug Task Force and Jefferson County Sheriff’s office Criminal Investigation Division said they arrested Zhane Johnson, 20, at the Dub Brassell Adult Detention Center shortly after she arrived for her shift as a jailer in the facility.
Johnson is a suspect in an ongoing investigation conducted by the agencies regarding contraband being brought into the facility, according to a news release. She was booked into the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Adult Detention Center in connection with charges of criminal conspiracy and criminal use of a communication device. Johnson will appear Monday for a probable cause hearing regarding the claims.
A week ago, another jailer, Miakia Ellis, 23, was arrested under similar circumstances after a multi-week investigation. Authorities said she was found to be in possession of approximately 115 grams of suspected marijuana, smoking papers, lighters, a phone charger and cellphones.
“This ongoing investigation and subsequent second arrest should not only (be) a warning to current or future employees but also to any citizens who are part of these efforts to introduce contraband into our detention facility,” stated Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr. “The health, welfare and safety of our detainees is of upmost priority, and we will continue to use every resource at our disposal to expose those who are part of this criminal activity.”
