Hogs receiver Whitehurst arrested
FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas wide receiver Kane Whitehurst was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia by the University of Arkansas Police Department early Sunday morning.
Independent reporting for Pine Bluff & Jefferson County since 1879.
Whitehurst, a redshirt freshman from Alpharetta, Ga., was arrested after UAPD received a complaint regarding a black BMW sports utility vehicle “squalling its tires and traveling at an excessive speed” through the Garland Avenue parking garage, according to the UAPD report.
Officers spotted the vehicle as it exited the parking garage, clocked it going 25 miles an hour and pulled Whitehurst over at approximately 3:39 a.m. The smell of “burnt marijuana” was coming from Whitehurst’s vehicle and a search uncovered a pipe, a grinder and a small baggie of marijuana.
Whitehurst was taken into custody and booked into the Washington County Jail at 6:48 a.m. He was released a little later after posting $1,320 bond. Whitehurst has a court date scheduled for April 30.
Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino said through a spokesperson he was aware of Whitehurst’s arrest and “it will be handled appropriately.”
Whitehurst is the second Arkansas football player arrested by UAPD this spring. Starting tackle Jason Peacock was suspended indefinitely after being arrested for felony theft of property on March 16.
