Jefferson County Judge Henry “Hank” Wilkins IV received a grant from Arkansas Department of Health for $200,000 from the Health Local Grant Trust Fund Program (LGTF) to assist with the renovations at the Jefferson County Health Unit. The renovations include a new roof, purchasing new HVAC equipment and paving the front half of the parking lot.
The grant requires a partial match of the funds by Jefferson County and Judge Wilkins has deemed that the repaving of the parking lot will be the county’s in-kind match. The project is just one of many improvements made by Judge Wilkins since he took office in January of 2017, a spokeswoman said in a press release.
“The health department is an important and beneficial asset that serves many in the community. It is just one of many assets we are working to improve for the welfare of all. We are focusing on and prioritizing the infrastructure issues of the county,” Wilkins said. “I feel confident that we will accomplish many things during this term that will positively affect the constituents of Jefferson County.”
The health department provides a variety of services to the community including Communicable Disease Investigation and Intervention, Environmental Health, Immunizations, Prenatal Care, Public Health Preparedness, Nutrition Counseling and Women’s Health.
