LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Director Loren Hitchcock announced his retirement Friday, effective June 30.
Hitchcock, who began his career with the agency in 1985 as a wildlife officer, has served as director since January 2011.
“My sincere ‘thank you’ to the scores of past commissioners, Gov. Mike Beebe, and past governors, legislative leaders, co-workers and everyone that I have come in contact and worked with,” Hitchcock said in a commission release.
Along with working as a wildlife officer, Hitchcock served as chief of the enforcement division, a position he held until 2003. In 2001, he took on additional duties as deputy director. In September 2010 he was named interim director after Scott Henderson stepped down as director. Four months later he was named head of the agency.
A native of Batesville, Hitchcock is married with two sons.
