Florence Bailey


SULPHUR SPRINGS — Florence E. “Mama Jeanie” Bailey, 84, a lifelong resident of Sulphur Springs, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Bailey was born January 15, 1928, in Sulphur Springs, to the late Henry Andrew and Audrey Birdie May Petty. She was reared and received her early education in Sulphur Springs and graduated from Watson Chapel High School.

Mrs. Bailey was a homemaker and a lifelong member of Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church. She sang in the choir and enjoyed working with the youth. She really loved her Church Family and was a member of the United Methodist Women.

Mrs. Bailey is survived by her sons, Joe (Marcell) Bailey, Jerry Bailey, and Jimmy (Linda) Bailey, all of Sulphur Springs; a daughter, Martha Lancaster of Sheridan; grandchildren, Jeff (Carol) Bailey, James Allen Bailey, and Bobby Joe Bailey, all of Pine Bluff, Amanda (Jeff) Simpson of Searcy, and Matthew Bailey of Pine Bluff; great-grandchildren, Tyler Ratliff of Pine Bluff, Sydney and Sadie Hackney of Star City Weston and Ashley Simpson of Searcy; a step-granddaughter, Wanda Noble of Rowell; and four step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon J. Bailey, whom she married on September 9, 1946 in Sulphur Springs; a granddaughter, Jennifer Ratliff, brothers, Andrew, Leon, and Bobby Petty, sisters, Lois Bradford and Neat Raymick, a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Bailey, and a step granddaughter, Cindy Burr.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Thursday, August 2, 2012, at Robinson’s.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 3, 2012, at Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church with Rev. Willis Findley officiating. Interment will follow in Fitzhugh Cemetery.
