The Pine Bluff Fire Department is reminding residents to change batteries in fire alarms and smoke detectors when they change their clocks for daylight saving time this weekend.
Daylight saving time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday, and clocks should be moved forward one hour.
The Fire Department said in a news release that it’s also a good time for people to change batteries in carbon monoxide detectors and check to make sure such devices are in working order.
The department also reminded residents that it offers some related services free of charge.
A person living within the city limits of Pine Bluff can get a free smoke detector from the Fire Department if needed. Interested residents should call (870) 730-2048. Fire Department personnel will schedule a time to go to the person’s residence, install a smoke detector and offer to conduct a home survey, according to the release.
The Fire Department also offers an address-identification program. Personnel can provide residents with reflective, adhesive numbers and install them outside the home to ensure that the house address is clearly visible. This will help first responders locate the residence in case of an emergency.
The department also offers free blood pressure checks for residents who stop by a local fire station.
