Urban Renewal Agency sets meeting

McGehee School Board to convene

The McGehee School Board will meet via Zoom at 5 p.m. Monday in the high school library. The agenda includes invoices and financial statement, administrators’ reports, construction update on campus additions, a discussion on virtual students and an Above & Beyond Award presentation.

Vietnam veterans event reset for fall

The Vietnam Veteran Commemoration ceremony scheduled for March 27 at the Pine Bluff Convention Center has been rescheduled for this fall. The location will be determined later, according to a news release.

The event will honor veterans who served in the military between Nov. 1, 1955, and May 15, 1975. Vietnam veterans wishing to participate have until Aug. 16 at 4 p.m. to register online with the Arkansas Department of Veteran Affairs at http://www.veterans.arkansas.gov/ or by calling Lauren Bland at Area Agency on Aging of Southeast Arkansas, (870) 543-6300.

Veterans who are already signed up for the celebration won’t need to re-register for the fall event. Vendors may call Samantha Stichert at Area Agency on Aging.

Area Agency on Aging, the city of Pine Bluff, the Arkansas State Council and Chapter 815 Pine Bluff, Vietnam Veterans of America Inc., and the convention center partnered with the Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs on the event.

Walmart pharmacies giving vaccines

Several Walmart pharmacies are administering covid-19 vaccines through the U.S. Federal Retail Pharmacy Program. Eligible patients can make appointments online by visiting http://Walmart.com/covidvaccine.

Area pharmacies include Walmart Supercenters at 5501 S. Olive St., Pine Bluff; 427 U.S. 425 North, Monticello; U.S. 65 South, McGehee; and stores at Jacksonville, Little Rock and North Little Rock.

$4.9M lined up for airports in state

The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded more than $4.9 million in grants to several airports and airfields in Arkansas to offset costs and maintain jobs during the pandemic, as well as provide increased sanitization to combat the spread of pathogens at the facilities.

U.S. Sens. John Boozman and Tom Cotton, and U.S.

Reps. Rick Crawford, French Hill and Bruce Westerman announced the funding Friday.

The Department of Transportation, through the Federal Aviation Administration, is distributing the funds appropriated through the Coronavirus Relief and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act.

Recipients include: Monticello Municipal/Ellis Field Airport, $13,000.

Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport/Adams Field, $4,770,746.

Jonesboro Municipal, $57,000.

Memorial Field Airport (Hot Springs), $23,000.

Searcy Municipal Airport, $23,000.

Newport Regional Airport, $13,000.

Ozark-Franklin County Airport, $9,000.

Arkansas International Airport, owned by the Blytheville-Gosnell Regional Airport Authority, $13,000.
