Federal Reserve bank, UAPB to host briefing

The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis and the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff will host a Southern Arkansas Economic Development briefing from 7:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the STEM Academy and Conference Center at UAPB.

A breakfast buffet will be served. The deadline to register is Thursday, Oct. 13.

Experts from the Federal Reserve, UAPB, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Southern Arkansas University and the Delta Regional Authority will share an update on the economic conditions and the outlook for Southern Arkansas at a breakfast briefing.

Kevin Kliesen, a business economist and officer in the St. Louis Fed Research division, will discuss national economic conditions; and Michael Pakko, chief economist at the Institute for Economic Advancement at UALR, will give the regional picture.

Panelists will include David Rankin, president emeritus of SAU; Chris Masingill, federal co-chairman of the Delta Regional Authority; and Peter Wui, an associate professor of economics at UAPB. The moderator will be Carla Martin, UAPB vice chancellor of finance and administration.

UAPB Chancellor Laurence Alexander will extend the welcome. Robert Hopkins, regional executive of the Little Rock Branch of the St. Louis Federal Reserve, will introduce the speakers. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a question and answer session.
