STAR CITY — Eck Calhoun Kersh, 94, of Star City, Ark., passed away on September 4, 2012, in the home of his son, Ronald, at Harrison, Ark. He was born at Relfs Bluff in Lincoln County, Ark., on September 4, 1918, a son of Grady and Lucendia (Louie) Keahey Kersh. He grew up farming, leaving to serve in World War II, stationed on Attu Island. He served as a driver for delegates at the first United Nations conference held in San Francisco after the war. He returned home and married Lois Faye Henry June 26, 1947. He worked as a mechanic for Ford Tractor and Fred Thornton Ford in Star City until opening his own shop, Kersh General Repair Shop in Star City, where he worked until retirement. His hobbies included drawing and painting, which he enjoyed for many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Star City, and a Mason.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a sister, Myrtle Kersh Rogers and her husband, Lyle, two brothers, Bill Kersh, and Dolph Kersh and his wife, Alice.
He is survived by his brother, Dr. N. Bruce Kersh and his wife, Doris, of Malvern, Ark.; three sons, Ronald Kersh, and his wife, Arleta, of Harrison, Ark., Dennis Kersh of Star City, and Kenneth Kersh and his wife Rhonda, of Batesville, Ark. He enjoyed three grandchildren, James Eck Kersh, of Harrison, Ark., Staff Sergeant Grady Kersh and his wife Kayla, their two children, Catherine and Chambers, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Kendra Kersh Todd and her husband, Andrew of Columbia, Mo., nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Star City.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Monday, September 10, 2012 at the funeral home. Bro. Dennis Dodson and Bro. Bill Berry will officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Lincoln County. The family requests memorials be made to the Church of your choice or to the Gideons for the placement of Bibles.
