Driver Safety course to be offered to educators for special fee

The AARP Driver Safety Program, developed by AARP, will be offered Aug. 21 from 12:30 to 5 p.m. at Jefferson Regional Medical Center, 1600 W. 40th Ave.

The cost of the course is $12 for AARP members, $14 for non-members, and $5 for educators during the month of August, payable to AARP at the time of the class. Participants should bring a valid driver’s license and their AARP membership card if they are members.

The course is for persons 50 and older. It covers the normal changes in vision, hearing and reaction time that comes with age and provides practical techniques for dealing with these changes. A driver who completes the course will receive a certificate. By state law this certificate will enable drivers to receive a discount on their automobile insurance if they are 55 and older. This discount is good for three years under Arkansas State law.

This is a four-hour multimedia course. Participants do not have to pass a test. The class will be taught by Bob Daugherty, an AARP certified instructor.

Those interested should call 870-247-4898 to pre-register. The class will be limited to 35 participants.
