Dorothy Gordin


Dorothy Sue Hughes Gordin, 88, passed away Saturday, December 3, in Trinity Village Medical Center, Pine Bluff, Ark.

She was born in Sallis, Miss., on June 14, 1923, to Clayton and Eloise Hughes.

Dorothy graduated from Jackson Infirmary in Jackson, Miss., in 1944, as a registered nurse where she began working in several different hospitals over the span of her career, including several years in the Panama Canal Zone. It was there she married her husband of 59 years, Ed Gordin. She retired from Sparks Regional Medical Center after 20 years. She was a long time member of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Fort Smith.

Preceded in death by her husband Ed; parents and a brother, Jimmie Hughes, and sister-in-law, Myren Hughes, she is survived by three children, Rev. Sam Gordin (Nancy) of Sapulpa, Okla.; Clay Gordin (Martha) of Crosses, Ark.; Sue Gordin Deneke (Bill) of Pine Bluff, Ark.; one brother, Bill Hughes (Sarah Jean), of Kilgore, Texas.

At her request, seven grandchildren will serve as honorary pall bearers. They are Clayton Gordin (Audrey), Ashley Gordin Linden (Jamie), Heather Gordin, Whitney Gordin Asher (Austin), Matthew Deneke (Shannon), Edward Deneke (Christy) and Alex Deneke. She was also a great-grandmother to seven.

A visitation will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, at Edwards Funeral Home, with funeral services scheduled for at one o’clock Wednesday, December 7 at St. Bartholmew’s Episcopal Church with Father Jeff Champlin officiating. Burial will be immediately after the service at Roselawn Cemetery.
