Domestic Violence Awareness Month event set

A National Domestic Violence Awareness Month observance will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Services Building, 211 W. Third Ave.

The event will be presented by author Jason Irby, Arkansas state Sen. Stephanie Flowers, and Dorcas Vangilst, executive director of the Union Rescue Mission/Dorcus House, according to a news release.

Guest speakers will include Pine Bluff Mayor Shirley Washington; Adrian Gardner, a professor at the University of Central Arkansas; and Ron Watson, founder and president of HAD2.

The observance is sponsored in part by the Children’s Advocacy Center of Pine Bluff, one of the special guests, according to a news release.

Other guests will include Anthony Powell of the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Economic Opportunities Commission; Bernard West, a minister; Essence of a Woman, a student organization at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff; Tiffaney Lewis of Strategic Financial Partners; and members of the Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services Department.
