David Olan Melder, Jr., 72 of Pine Bluff, formerly of McGehee, died Saturday at The Green House Cottages of Southern Hills in Rison. He was born January 1, 1943 in Dermott to the late David O. Melder, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Beseau Melder.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pine Bluff. He was director of the YMCA in Rockwall, Texas, then co-manager of Delta Pest Control, which was a family business. He graduated from Henderson State University in 1968, where he was a member of Phi Lambda Chi. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. He loved working with the youth, umpiring and coaching all of his life.
Survivors include one sister, Mary Lackey of Pine Bluff; nieces, Tiffani Reynolds and Angel Amick; nephew, Lee Turchi; four great nieces; one great nephew and one great great-nephew.
A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pine Bluff with Father Frank DuPreez officiating.
The family will be at the home of Mary Lackey at 2008 Wellington Dr., Pine Bluff, Ark. 71603 on Friday and Saturday. Arrangements by Roselawn Funeral Service and Crematory in Pine Bluff.
