The Pine Bluff John McAlmont Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met Jan. 21 at Lakeside United Methodist Church’s community center to hear a presentation about historic cemetery monuments.

Lela R. Murray introduced the speaker, Charles “Chuck” E. Fuller, co-owner of Robinson-Fuller Funeral Home, who presented the program, “Historic Sites: Cemetery Monuments, their Symbols and Meanings.” Fuller featured a display of pictures of monuments he has taken while traveling Arkansas, according to a news release.

Regent Susan Over announced the appointment of Sue Smith as chairman of the Southeast Arkansas College Scholarship, replacing Betty Cole who has resigned.

Over also announced that the DAR State Conference will be March 26-28 and that delegates and alternates will need to be elected. National President Pamela Wright will attend the conference. Members were encouraged to attend.

Over reminded members that the annual George Washington Luncheon will be held Feb. 20 at the Hot Springs Country Club in Hot Springs.

Also at the meeting, Over led the members in the rituals. The minutes had been reviewed by members in the chapter newsletter. After no corrections were made, Sharon Wyatt made a motion to accept the minutes. It was seconded by Barrie Harden, and the motion carried. Treasurer DeeLois Lawrence gave the treasurer’s report.

The event hostesses were Donna Davis and Sue Smith.
