Christian Women’s group set luncheon

The Christian Women’s Connection invites the community to its monthly luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Pine Bluff Country Club.

The speaker will be Patty Hullett of Ennis, Texas. Her Topic will be “Been There Done That Many Times.” Also, she will be baton twirling as a special presentation, according to a news release.

Hullett spent most of her life dealing with morbid obesity and dieting to the point she even wanted to kill herself as a teen over a school teacher’s opinion.

“His decision, because of her size, completely changed the course of her life’s path. Thankfully, God kept redefining her as she grew up and matured. A few years ago, He took a terrible medical issue and exchanged it for one of the greatest gifts of her life — the opportunity to finally shed over 150 pounds and to finally be free of her biggest fear — her weight,” according to the release.

The Christian Women’s luncheon is $21, which includes the meal, drink, dessert, tax, and gratuity. For reservations or cancellations, call Jennifer Keahey at (870) 540-9302. All reservations must be made three days in advance and participants will be charged for reservations they don’t keep.

Ag Law Center sets event dates

The National Agricultural Law Center has set the 2025 dates for its conferences providing agricultural and environmental insights for lawyers and industry professionals.

The Mid-South Agricultural and Environmental Law Conference, which is now in its 12th year, will be held June 5-6 at the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law in Memphis.

The Western Water, Ag, and Environmental Law Conference, now in its third year, will be held June 19-20 at the Peppermill Resort Spa Casino in Reno, Nev.

Both conferences will also have livestream options, according to a news release.

“These conferences are great networking and learning opportunities,” said Harrison Pittman, director of the National Ag Law Center, or NALC. “Both have a unique blend of leading experts who deliver practical, relevant information to attorneys, students and other ag industry professionals in attendance.”

Both conferences offer continuing legal education credit, as well as continuing education from the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers.

“We expect a diverse range of attendees, including public and private sector attorneys, students, farmer leaders, water professionals, policymakers and more,” he said. “It’s a pretty fun mix of folks.”

One issue on the agenda for both conferences is the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s ruling on the Chevron doctrine. At the Mid-South, Grant Ballard, partner at Ark Ag Law, and John Dillard, principal at OFW Law, will present the session, “Shifting Sands: Agency Authority, Ag, & Food in a Post-Chevron World.”

Other topics at the Mid-South include solar leases and development, ag land transactions, a mid-year review of legal developments impacting the Mid-South, a federal legislative and regulatory update, and more.

Arkansas Secretary of Agriculture Wes Ward will be the keynote speaker as part of the annual virtual “Early Bird” event held a few days before the in-person meeting in Memphis. The date for the “Early Bird” will be announced soon.

Conference registration will open in January. Updates can be found online on the NALC’s website.

The NALC is a unit of the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture.
