A&P finance panel to meet

The Pine Bluff Advertising and Promotion Commission Finance Committee’s monthly meeting will be held at noon Nov. 18 at the offices of the A&P Commission, 623 S. Main St., according to a news release.

Westerman staff to visit

The office of 4th District U.S. Rep. Bruce Westerman announced mobile office hours for November. In southeast Arkansas, staff will visit:

Nov. 20 — 10 a.m. to noon – Grant County Courthouse in Sheridan.

Nov. 22 — 10 a.m. to noon – Cleveland County Courthouse in Rison.

Staff will be available to assist constituents with casework matters related to passports, Veterans Affairs, Social Security, Internal Revenue Service, and other federal agency issues, according to a news release.

ACO sets fish fry fundraiser

Arkansas Community Organizations will have a fish fry fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the National Trust Partners For Christ Church, 2106 E. Sixth Ave. The dinner includes fish, two sides, dessert, and soda or water. Menu side choices are mixed greens, fries, baked beans, coleslaw and potato salad. City Wide Mission to meet

City Wide Mission will be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 18 at Bethany Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 1923 Olive St. Participants are asked to bring canned goods for the outreach project this month, according to a news release. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Kirby Gulley, pastor of Eighth Avenue Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. R.L. Davis is pastor at Bethany Chapel.

Lula Mae’s to provide meals

Lula Mae’s Day Center Inc., 613 W. Eighth Ave., will provide free community Thanksgiving meals Nov. 23 from noon to 2 p.m. while supplies last.

The event is the agency’s annual Thanksgiving Outreach. Lula Mae’s mission is to serve as a resource to support people and communities by providing the knowledge, tools, and strategies needed to sustain a quality, self-sufficient lifestyle while becoming positive contributors to society, according to a news release. DAV plans virtual career fair

Disabled American Veterans and RecruitMilitary will co-host the National Government Agency Virtual Veterans Career Fair, Nov. 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is free to veterans, their spouses, active duty military personnel and members of the National Guard and Reserve.

More than 15 employers actively seeking the unique talents of America’s veterans will be on-site. In addition to employment assistance, veterans can utilize career counseling and resume assistance, network with fellow veterans and military personnel, and get support with their Department of Veterans Affairs benefits and claims assistance free. Quilters Guild to meet

The Pine Bluff Quilters Guild will meet at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 19 at First Baptist Church, 6501 S. Hazel St. The election of officers will be held and a special program will be presented by the members as they show and explain their favorite notion.

Anyone with items to donate for the holiday plastic wrap game is reminded to bring them, according to a news release.

Show-and-tell, along with fat quarter and door prize drawings will be held after the business meeting.

Members, with a birthday in November, are asked to bring a door prize, which should be related to quilting or sewing. Door prizes are given out at the end of the meeting and all winners must be present.

Everyone is encouraged to bring a fat quarter (18 by 22 inches) of 100% cotton for the monthly fat quarter drawing. Christmas prints are the feature for November. At any time, white or white on white is also acceptable.

The Pine Bluff Quilters Guild has an annual membership fee of $20. Anyone interested in learning the art of quilt making is welcome to come, visit and become a member, according to a club spokesman. No prior experience is needed.

The purpose of the guild is to ensure the continuity of the craft by teaching the techniques of quilting, and to encourage and promote an interest in quilting to the public.

Nominate for Living Treasure

The Arkansas Arts Council, an agency of Arkansas Heritage, is seeking the next Arkansas Living Treasure. The deadline to nominate a master craftsman or folk artist in Arkansas is Jan. 10, according to a news release.

The Arkansas Living Treasure Award program honors masters of traditional arts or crafts. Every year, the arts council seeks nominations for master craftspeople who cherish Arkansas’ cultural heritage through traditional arts or crafts. The award comes with a $5,000 award and a recognition reception.

Traditional crafts and folk arts are works using heritage methods or materials and have at least some connections to the history, culture or traditions of people and places in Arkansas. An independent panel of practicing craft artists and professionals in the fields of craft and folk art will review the nominations and select the recipient.
