Doctor to speak to Club Scrub

Dr. Brandi Wright, a nephrologist, will speak to the Ivy Center for Education’s Future Medical Professionals “Club Scrub” from 6-7 p.m. March 5. The session will be held at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences South Central Medical Center, 1601 W. 40th Ave.

Wright is a member of the Jefferson Regional Medical Center staff and specializes in chronic kidney disease and hypertension. The topic will be “How Hypertension causes Kidney Failure?” She will discuss symptoms and treatments of hypertension and kidney disease, according to a news release.

Wright graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 2000. She received her medical degree from Meharry Medical College in 2011. Her internal medicine training was completed at Kaiser Permanente in San Francisco and her nephrology training was completed at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

Retired teacher Mattie Collins is president of the Ivy Center and Danielle Harris, education coordinator with UAMS Regional Programs, is the Club Scrub coordinator. The Ivy Center is a college career readiness/youth mentoring program created to promote higher education for 7-12th graders. Future medical professional students attend workshops presented by local, state, and national medical professionals to encourage them to choose a health career profession and upon completion, come back and serve the people of Pine Bluff/Jefferson County.

UAPB plans spring career summit

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Spring Career Summit is scheduled 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 6 in the Kenneth L. Johnson Sr. Complex, H.O. Clemmons Arena (HPER). The spring career summit is open to students enrolled at UAPB and alumni. Job seekers should bring copies of a well-prepared resume. Professional dress is preferred, but not required, however participants shouldn’t wear jeans, sweats, or mini-skirts, according to the UAPB Office of Career Services.

Currently, 95 organizations representing business/industry, government agencies, graduate/professional, and school districts from Arkansas, California, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Tennessee, and Texas will attend.
