Area Agency releases menu
Area Agency on Aging of Southeast Arkansas is serving lunches from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays at the senior centers. Here’s next week’s menu:
Feb. 19 — Hashbrown and ham casserole, spring salad, strawberries, breadstick, angel food cake, and milk.

UAM awards health graduates
The University of Arkansas at Monticello College of Technology-McGehee held its Practical Nursing Pinning Ceremony and semi-annual Allied Health Commencement ceremony on the Monticello campus Dec. 8.
Six students earned a Practical Nursing Technical Certificate and 36 students earned a Certificate of Proficiency in Emergency Medical Technician, Phlebotomy or Nursing Assistant.
A Technical Certificate in Practical Nursing is awarded after completion of 42 credits and more than 800 hours of clinicals in 12 months. Certificates of proficiency in Allied Health programs are awarded to students who complete the required coursework and clinicals for the program within six to 16 weeks.
Students completing the Practical Nursing Technical Certificate are prepared to take the Practical Nursing National Council Licensure Exam (PN-NCLEX) to become a licensed practical nurse.
Six students earned a Certificate of Proficiency in Emergency Medical Technician. Graduates of these programs are prepared to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician certification exam.
Five students earned a Certificate of Proficiency in Phlebotomy. Graduates are prepared to take the National Healthcare Association certification exam. To complete this program, students participated in 16 weeks of theory and eight weeks of clinicals, where they performed a minimum of 50 venipunctures and 10 capillary blood sticks.
Twenty-five students earned a Certificate of Proficiency in Nursing Assistant. Upon completion of the training program approved by the Arkansas Department of Human Services Office of Long Term Care, graduates can take the certified nursing assistant exam in Arkansas.

Century Farm applications available
The Arkansas Department of Agriculture is accepting applications for the 2024 Arkansas Century Farm Program. This program recognizes Arkansas families who have owned and farmed the same land for at least 100 years. The program is voluntary and there is no cost to apply.
To qualify, Arkansas farms must meet the following criteria:
The same family must have owned the farm for 100 years by Dec. 31, 2024. The line of ownership from the original settler or buyer may be through children, grandchildren, siblings, and nephews or nieces, including through marriage and adoption.
The farm must be at least 10 acres of the original land acquisition and make a financial contribution to the overall farm income.
Qualifying Arkansas farms will receive a personalized Arkansas Century Farm certificate and metal sign listing the farm name and year established.
