St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Peter Catholic Church of Pine Bluff held the annual Corpus Christi procession June 2.
The procession started after opening prayers and singing in the Annunciation Chapel at St. Joseph. The group proceeded and stopped at two other stations along the route to St. Peter’s. At each station, there were Gospel readings, prayers and singing, according to a news release.
The fourth and final station was at St. Peter’s sanctuary where benediction and closing prayers were held. St. Peter’s members hosted a reception in their family center following the procession.
More than 68 individuals participated in the procession by walking, following in cars or preparing food.
The Revs. Joseph Marconi and Andreus Kedati as well as Deacon Garry Boccarossa were celebrants. Mark Ives organized the procession. Jimmy and Joanna Rinchuso provided the music and led the singing. Barbara Akins was the narrator. The Rev. Warren Harvey also participated in the procession.
“The Corpus Christi procession is a centuries-old tradition of the Catholic faith to process the Real Presence of Jesus — the Eucharist — in public. The feast of Corpus Christi was established in Liege, Belgium, in 1247,” according to https://www.archstl.org/.
