Cash only nond set for man who allegedly broke into truck

A $5,000 cash only bond was set Thursday for a Pine Bluff man currently on probation who allegedly broke into a parked vehicle on Tuesday.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Sidney Bryant, 26, with breaking or entering.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Bryant was arrested after police were sent to the 1600 block of South Willow Street for what was reported as a burglary in progress but was actually a breaking or entering.

When officers arrived, they found a pickup truck with a side window broken, glass on the ground and a brick in the passenger side floorboard. The owner of the truck reported that a stereo was missing from the vehicle.

A witness told police they had seen a man get out of the passenger side of the truck and run behind a house, and the witness followed the man to the area of West 13th Avenue and Magnolia Street. The witness also told police the man was wearing a red shirt and blue jeans.

According to the affidavit, Pine Bluff Police Department Officer Donald Griffin followed the witness and saw a man, later identified as Bryant, at West 13th Avenue and Fir Street. The witness pointed Bryant out to Griffin, who made the arrest.

Bryant was reportedly wearing clothing that matched the description given by the witness and was sweating heavily, the report said.

When police questioned Bryant, he denied breaking into the truck and taking the stereo.

The report did not say if the stereo was recovered.
