Four University of Arkansas at Monticello players scored in double figures, and Josh Smith finished with a double-double in leading the Boll Weevils to an 87-57 men’s basketball win over Hendrix College on Tuesday.
The home opener for the Weevils (1-2) was played in front of Monticello School District elementary students for UAM’s annual Billie Ball Game.
Smith, a junior from Dallas, scored a season-high 22 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. He made 7 of 8 shots from the floor and 8 of 9 free throws.
Ashton Price scored a team-high 23 points, Isaac Jackson had 12 points and Jakob Zenon had 11 for the Weevils, who led 50-22 at halftime. Jackson drained 3 of 4 3-point baskets as the rest of the team made just 4 of 20 from the arc.

The Weevils shot 32 for 62 (51.6%) from the floor and 16 for 17 in free throws. They were strong in the paint with 48 points, made 16 second-chance points and scored 21 off turnovers while leading wire-to-wire.
None of Hendrix’s players scored in double figures. Kyle Roach and Jaxon Herrera each had 8 points for the Warriors of Division III.
Hendrix was held to 19-of-60 (31.7%) shooting from the floor and 10-of-31 from the arc. The Warriors made 9 of 13 free throws.
The UAM women’s team took on Arkansas Baptist College on Tuesday evening.
