Tuesday night’s game in Dallas quickly got away from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
The UAPB men’s basketball team fell 106-60 to Southern Methodist University at Moody Coliseum, its most lopsided loss this season.
SMU (5-0) shot 56.9 percent from the field, made 12 3-pointers and shot 20 of 26 from the free throw line.
UAPB (0-6) shot 34.3 percent from the field and made just 4 of its 26 shots from 3-point range. The Golden Lions collected 13 offensive rebounds but only scored 2 second-chance points.
Redshirt junior guard Trevon Payton led UAPB with 13 points and five rebounds. Senior forward Jaquan Scott scored 12 points in 22 minutes before fouling out. Freshman guard Milhan Charles added 10 points.

SMU senior guard Jaron Pierre Jr. scored a game-high 23 points with seven rebounds. Five other Mustangs reached double digits, led by senior guard Boopie Miller with 15 points and 10 assists.
UAPB took an early 4-3 lead when Payton made a 3-pointer, but SMU senior guard BJ Edwards answered with a 3 of his own 15 seconds later to put the Mustangs in front permanently. A short 4-1 run was the best run the Golden Lions mustered in the first half as SMU took a 45-26 lead into halftime.
The Golden Lions had a 6-0 run early in the second half which cut the deficit to 47-32, but SMU answered with a 10-0 run.
SMU added a 16-0 run later in the half, which Edwards capped off with a jumper to get the Mustangs to 100 points with 4:58 remaining. This was the second straight game in which UAPB allowed 100 or more points after Vanderbilt scored 104 on Saturday.
This was UAPB’s final game this season against a Power Four opponent, as SMU competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
