MONTICELLO — The Arkansas-Monticello women’s basketball team improved to 4-4 with a 61-55 win over Christian Brothers on Thursday night. The Cotton Blossoms led for the entire game.
Chelsea scored 19 points for UAM to lead all scorers. Taylor Clark finished with a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Candace Virgadamo added 10 points for the Blossoms.
UAM overcame a loss in the rebounding category of 42-29. The Blossoms were able to force 26 turnovers by the Lady Bucs, which led to 30 points.
Christian Brothers was led by Jasmine Ellis, who had 12 points and nine rebounds.
The Blossoms will not return to the court until Dec. 30, when they travel to San Antonio for the St. Mary’s Classic. In the two-day tournament, UAM will face Incarnate World on the first day and play St. Mary’s on New Year’s Eve. Both games are scheduled for 3 p.m.

Boll Weevils take control against Philander Smith
LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas-Monticello men’s basketball team traveled to Philander Smith on Thursday night and handled the Panthers for an 87-72 victory. UAM improved to 8-2 with the win.
L.A. Farmer led the Boll Weevils with 28 points, and was joined by three of his teammates in double-digit scoring. Kori Forge (23 points), Ricardo Hall (17) and Sergio Crowe (15) added scoring for UAM.
The Weevils overcame a 37-point effort from Philander Smith’s Ken Brown, who also had seven assists.
After the Panthers led by as many as eight in the first half, UAM grabbed a 37-36 halftime lead. From there, the Weevils took control of the game. 10 of the Weevils’ last 13 points came on free throws.
UAM made 27 of 56 field goal attempts, including 7 of 14 3-point shots. The Weevils shot 78 percent at the charity stripe, making 26 of 33 free throw attempts. The Panthers were limited to a 39 percent mark from the floor and a 34 percent rate from long distance.
Next for the Weevils will be a 2 p.m. Saturday home game against Champion Baptist. The game was originally was scheduled for 4 p.m.
