The ARTx3 Campus is hosting Community Art Fest, an afternoon of free art-making activities for all ages. The event is 1-3 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 S. Main St.
“We will be guided by talented artists and have fun making art,” said Shakeelah Rahmaan, programs manager at the ARTx3 Campus.
ART IN THE GARDEN WITH CARLSEN-ROGERS
Heidi Carlsen-Rogers will lead “Art in the Garden” in the William H. Kennedy Jr. Gallery, where her exhibit “Glimmer” is on display. She will lead participants in creating glimmer garden panels using flower line drawings or arranging bouquets to make art pieces, according to a news release.
“Art in the Garden” is part of Second Saturday Family FunDay, ARTx3’s monthly hands-on arts and science activity program. It is sponsored by the Pine Bluff Area Community Foundation, an affiliate office of the Arkansas Community Foundation.
Independent reporting for Pine Bluff & Jefferson County since 1879.
“Combining floral photography, tapestry, thread and traditional handwork techniques, Carlsen-Rogers makes large-scale textile gardens,” according to the release. “Using human-sized flowers as a point of connection, her work explores themes around the mending, healing and repair of both people and planet, our well-being as a culture, interconnectedness, inclusiveness — and empathy building toward one another, the natural environment and our shared home, the earth.”
Carlsen-Rogers holds a Bachelor of Science from Kent State University. She lives in Northwest Arkansas. Visit her website at heidicarlsenrogers.com. “Glimmer” is on view at ASC until Jan. 10.
SCULPTURE WITH ANGI COOPER
Mixed-media artist Angi Cooper will demonstrate how to create cubism-inspired sculptures from two-dimensional materials such as corrugated cardboard. The cubism style transforms natural shapes into exaggerated geometric shapes. Registration for this workshop is requested but not required at artx3.org/all-events/sculpting-with-angi-cooper.
“Visitors can register through our website artx3.org to participate, but don’t be discouraged if you don’t. Please come out on the day. Have fun and enjoy getting to know some wonderful artists,” a spokesperson said.
Cooper is the ARTx3 Campus’ Arts in Education artist-in-residence for November. Her residency and this workshop are made possible by the Arkansas Arts Council’s Arts in Education program.
A professional mixed-media artist and practicing teaching artist, Cooper works in Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas. With a naturalist background, she often incorporates nature and animals into her work. She graduated from the University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in graphic design.
Workshops she has conducted include printmaking, bookmaking, mask creation, drawing and painting techniques, zine design, paper sculpture, puppet construction, paper-cutting techniques, and mural design and construction. She lives in Olive Branch, Miss. Visit her website at angicooper.com.
