The Pine Bluff Arsenal has awarded a $99,000 contract to the
University of Arkansas at Fayetteville Industrial Engineering Department. As
part of the contract, the university will provide industrial engineering
support, services and logistics expertise to the Arsenal’s manufacturing,
storage and distribution missions.
Independent reporting for Pine Bluff & Jefferson County since 1879.
This contract will allow the Arsenal “access to the expertise of the U of A
and offer support to the high-value military missions at Pine Bluff,” said
Larry Wright, Pine Bluff Arsenal Deputy to the Commander.
“It will create a partnership between the Arsenal and the University that
will enhance the installation’s military readiness by improving our
industrial operations, and shape our concept for joint logistics support.
The partnership will give us contact to the Center of Excellence for
Logistics and Distribution (CELDI) at the U of A, and insight into the best
practices of premier logistics companies in America,” he said.
This is the first contract between the Arsenal and the U of A in more than
15 years.
“I am very excited about this collaboration,” said John English,
dean of the College of Engineering. “We are honored to be supporting the
Arsenal. Department head Ed Pohl has an extensive military background, and
he, along with our industrial engineering faculty, are the experts when it
comes to logistics. I look forward to seeing the great work this partnership
leads to in the future.”
The period of the contract runs from now until October 2017.
