Pine Bluff set a record for the earliest measurable snowfall early Thursday when one-tenth of an inch of snow was recorded, breaking the previous record from Nov. 14, 1976.
National Weather Service Senior Meteorologist Marty Trexler said that the reason behind the surprise burst of snow was that moisture in the state overnight Wednesday was both deeper and more widespread than the forecast models had indicated.
According to National Weather Service data, Little Rock received one-tenth of an inch of snow, which was the earliest snowfall since 1993. North Little Rock received four-tenths of an inch of snow, which was the earliest snowfall since 1991.
“We will be looking at several more rounds of precipitation in the state from Saturday through early Monday,” Trexler said. “Saturday temperatures in the Pine Bluff area should be warm enough to give you rain, but overnight Sunday into Monday morning, we will have colder temperatures, which could give Pine Bluff a wintry mix.”
