Alton Thomas Jr.


Elder Alton Thomas Jr., 72, of Mitchellville, Ark., was born November 30, 1942 in Winnsboro, La. and transitioned from this life on Saturday August 29, 2015.

Elder Thomas was married to Francette Kendrix in 1968 and this union was blessed with one son Alton Thomas, III. Francette preceded him in death.

On December 30, 2000, Elder Thomas married Bobbie J. Norman Thomas and gained two daughters and a son.

Elder Thomas started in the ministry under the leadership of the late Dr. A.L. Hunt.

Elder Thomas preached for forty-six (46) years and patured various churches for thirty-six (36) years. Elder Thomas pastured South Warren COGIC in Warren from 1979-1987 and Washington Memorial COGIC in Dumas until his transition. Elder Thomas served as assistant to the Superintendent in the Dumas District, Arkansas Second (2nd) Jurisdiction Church of God in Christ.

Elder Thomas leaves to cherish his memories: Loving wife, Bobbie J. Thomas, Sons, Alton Thomas III of Las Vegas, Nev., Reggie Hillard of Kansas City, Mo.; daughters, Rhonda Gordon of Redfield, Ark., and Renice Norman of Mitcheville, Ark; siblings, Jerry Thomas and Daisy Mae Thomas of Winnsboro, La., and Betty Mae Davis of Dallas, Texas; brother-in-law, Joe Lee Davis of Flint, Mich., 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, a host of other relatives, friends and extended church family.

Funeral services will be held Saturday September 5, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem COGIC, 509 HWY 65 N, Dumas, Ark. Visitation 507 p.m. at Christian Way Funeral Home, Elder Thomas will lie in state from 10:15 till time of service.
