The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff will host its 169th commencement exercises at 10 a.m. May 11 at the Pine Bluff Convention Center.

The ceremony will be livestreamed at YouTube.com/UAPBTelevision. The procession begins at 9:45 a.m., according to a news release.

Robin Givens, an award-winning actress, director, author, and advocate for women’s rights, will be the spring 2024 commencement speaker.

“Givens’ career has spanned nearly four decades and includes leading roles in television series and films such as ‘Head of the Class,’ ‘Beverly Hills Madam,’ ‘The Women of Brewster Place,’ and ‘Boomerang.’ Other acting credits include Tyler Perry’s ‘The Family that Preys’ and ‘House of Payne’ ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel Air,’ and ‘The Cosby Show,'” according to the release.

The actress made her directorial debut with “Murder to Remember” for Lifetime Movie Network and recently directed CBS’ “So Help Me Todd.” In 2007, she wrote the autobiography “Grace Will Lead Me Home.”

Givens graduated from Sarah Lawrence College at 19, becoming one of the youngest to attend the school, before beginning her acting career. She was also the spokesperson for the National Domestic Violence Hotline and received the Vital Link Award from the organization for more than 20 years of service.

For UAPB’s graduation, the convention center will open its doors open at 7:30 a.m. May 11. Metal detectors will be located at the main entrance where security personnel will search all items carried inside. The university’s clear bag policy will be enforced.

Backpacks, fanny packs, and large purses are prohibited. The following items are allowed: Clear plastic bags (1 per person) no larger than 12″ x 6″ x 12″; One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags (1 per person); Non-transparent clutch purses or wallets no larger than 4.5″ x 6.5″ (1 per person); and Bags necessary for approved medical equipment.

Prohibited items must be returned to the participant’s vehicle or discarded. Items left at the entrance will be discarded. Any unlawful items are subject to confiscation, and the person in possession of such items is subject to arrest.

For guests requiring mobility accommodations, accessible services are available. Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant parking and seating are available on a first come, first served basis. The Accessible Services sections are reserved for the guests who need accessible seating and one additional guest. Guests who use wheelchairs are encouraged to bring one, as wheelchairs are not provided for use throughout the ceremony.
