A fond farewell
Editor, The Commercial:
The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff has been blessed to have some exceptional chancellors, including Chancellor Dr. Laurence Alexander. I recall when he came for a visit to Pine Bluff 11 years ago, and the enthusiasm he had then he continues to have today.
One of the very important functions of all our schools of higher education is to help create job opportunities for their graduates. Chancellor Alexander has done that throughout his tenure at UAPB by putting our students in front of the business community nationwide.
Independent reporting for Pine Bluff & Jefferson County since 1879.
Another important function of schools of higher education is to find ways to support and promote the communities they serve. I don’t recall being at an important community event in which Chancellor Alexander was not present. He is proactive and always complimentary of our community.
Lastly, Chancellor Alexander, over the past 11 years has become a personal friend and confidant. While I regret that we are losing such a talent, I wish him the very best in his new endeavors in Michigan.
