Kaye Richardson and Debbie James presented the program “Ten Ways to Kill a Club” at the recent meeting of the Heart-N-Hands Extension Homemakers Club. The meeting was held at the Pursuit Church in White Hall.
Richardson discussed ways that members could kill a club, according to a news release, including:
(1) Not coming to meetings, but if they do, arriving late.
(2) Leaving before the meeting is over and making sure that everyone hears them leave.
Independent reporting for Pine Bluff & Jefferson County since 1879.
(3) Finding faults with the work of the officers and other members.
(4) Not talking at meetings; talking negatively after the meeting is over.
(5) Never accepting an office or serving on a committee; it’s easier to criticize than do things.
(6) Doing nothing more than what is necessary, but when other members willingly use their ability to help matters along, complaining that the club is being run by a clique or dictator.
(7) Talking cooperation but never cooperating.
(8) Threatening to leave the club if something isn’t the way they want it.
(9) Repeating all the unpleasant things about the club to anyone who will listen.
(10) Not bothering to enlist new members.
James talked about good leadership, which provides positive interaction between the leader and the group. She stressed the importance of a positive attitude in achieving goals. Leaders should always strive to make meetings fun and creative.
During the business session, Heart-N-Hands President Jody Stout presented Loretta Jordan and Warna Turner their 10-year EHC membership certificates, which had been presented at the Jefferson County EHC Spring Council.
She presented outgoing club officers with gifts. She announced that July is Heart-N-Hands EHC birthday month, and Brenda Hendrix volunteered to bring a cake to the July meeting.
Stout reminded everyone of the Christmas in July event, which will be held on July 24. Members are to bring a dish that they would like to be considered for the Holiday Foods event in November.
Nancy Rosen presented a check to the club, which she received at the Arkansas Extension Homemakers Council for the Project Book she submitted. Rosen also thanked everyone who brought items for the Backpack Project at Pursuit Church.
Mary Ann Kizer, advisor, installed the following officers for Heart-N-Hands for 2025-2027: Sandy Smith, president; Stout, vice-president; Tracy Diaz, secretary; Connie Herrin, treasurer; and Delores Kelley, parliamentarian.
