The 2017 Master Gardeners training will be held Thursdays in March in Jefferson County. Sessions are scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30.
People interested in becoming a Master Gardener, may obtain an application at the Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service.
They should return the application and payment of $65 by Jan. 31, 2017, to the Master Gardeners Training Application, Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service, 500 Idaho St., Pine Bluff, AR 71601.
The Master Gardeners classes are required to become a member of the Jefferson County Master Gardeners programs. This training will provide basic information on most of the core areas and skills that will provide all Master Gardeners the knowledge to be a successful Master Gardener, according to a press release.
Training will be presented by personnel from the Arkansas State Department of Agriculture, University of Arkansas, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, Arkansas Agriculture Research Centers, various county Extension Services staff, state level and local Master Gardeners.

This course is about the necessary components needed to grow healthy vegetables, flowers, herb gardens, fruit vines, bushes and trees, lawns, ornamental trees and hedges.
After the trainee has completed the Master Gardener training, during their first year as a new member, they must complete 40 work hours plus 20 education hours to maintain their membership. They can earn both work and learning hours by participating in monthly Master Gardener meetings, workshops, seminars, gardens, and landscape projects throughout the state all year.
To maintain the Master Gardener membership, after the first year, members are required to provide a minimum of 20 hours of volunteer work and attend 20 hours of education activity.
