Bond set in alleged forgery and theft

A $10,000 bond was set Monday for a man who allegedly forged a signature on several checks and cashed them.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Jordan Skillen, 22, with four counts of forgery and with theft of property.

According to a probable cause affidavit from White Hall Police Investigator Celena Harbison, officers were sent to the White Hall Travel Plaza on Nov. 2 after the owner reported that four checks had been written on a closed account.

A clerk at the business identified Skillen as the person who cashed the checks, and store security video confirmed that.

Harbison reported that when Skillen was questioned, he allegedly said he forged the name of his deceased grandmother to the checks to bu gas, cigarettes and lottery tickets.

Three of the checks were written on Oct. 24, two of them for $80 each, the third for $60 and the fourth check on Oct. 25 for $90.
