Bond set in alleged burglary and assault

A $50,000 bond was set Wednesday for a man who allegedly forced his way into an apartment Sunday while carrying a gun.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Lavonte Johnson, 19, with aggravated burglary and six counts of aggravated assault.

According to a probable cause affidavit from Pine Bluff Police Department Detective Mike Sweeney, a woman who lives at Regency Arms Apartments at 2401 W. 31st Ave. told police that she saw someone walk past her door and when she opened it, Johnson was holding a gun. He then pushed her aside and walked in the apartment.

The woman reported that a second man followed Johnson into the apartment, while a third stood at the doorway holding a gun.

Sweeney said in the affidavit that Johnson walked to a man who was in the apartment and said, “bro you got my gun” before the three men left the apartment.

The woman told police she knew Johnson because she had gone to school with him and was familiar with the other two men “from the area.”

In addition to three adults, there were three children under the age of three in the apartment, the affidavit said.

Johnson, who has no prior convictions or pending charges, was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victims until the case is settled. He said he would hire his own attorney.
