The Army Corps of Engineers issued a small craft advisory Wednesday for the Arkansas River after heavy rains caused flows to rise.
Small craft advisories are issued when flows exceed 70,000 cubic feet per second. Flows at Emmett Sanders Lock and Dam at Pine Bluff are about 64,000 c.f.s. and climbing, a news release said.
Flows at Trimble Lock and Dam at Fort Smith are about 81,000 cubic feet per second. Flows at Dardanelle Lock and Dam at Russellville are 87,000 c.f.s. Flows at Murray Lock and Dam at Little Rock are about 62,000 c.f.s. and climbing.
During high flows, strong currents and large debris can threaten the safety of pleasure craft. More rain could push flows higher or cause the advisory to remain in effect longer.
