MOUNT IDA – Ann Palmolea Smith, 96, loving mother and grandmother, of

Mount Ida formerly of Pine Bluff, died Friday, October 9, 2015. Ann

was born in Sioux City, Iowa on August 17, 1919 to Anna Parvue

Palmolea and John Nicolas Palmolea.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Odis; her parents; her

sister, Mary Jeanne Stone; and her brother, John Palmolea. Ann was

married on July 8, 1944 in Sioux City, Iowa, where Odis was stationed

during the Second World War and after his two year tour of duty in the

Pacific Theatre, the couple moved back to his home in Arkansas where

he joined his family in farming.

Ann was renowned for her pies, her specialty being coconut and pecan.

Through the years, she was actively involved with her church, First

Presbyterian Church of Pine Bluff, and taught Sunday school for many

years. Ann was also active in the Girl Scouts and PTA.

Ann had many hobbies and was always working on a project. When Ann

was not spending time with her friends and family, she enjoyed making

beautiful beaded jewelry, working in her yard, painting, the list goes

on. Ann was always busy but never too busy to lend a helping hand to

her family or a friend in need.

She raised three daughters, Patricia (Patti) Loughridge of Richmond,

Va., Pamela Hughes of Ashland, Va. and Paula S. Barnes of Hot Springs,

Ark.

Ann is survived by her three daughters and her four grandchildren,

Jason Reeves of Manhattan, N.Y., Matthew and Cressa Hughes of

Richmond, Va., Claudia Azar of St. Augustine, Fla. and Tyler Barnes of

Hot Springs.

Nothing in the world made her happier than being with her

grandchildren and traveling. Retaining her sense of humor until the

end and never mincing words, Ann was always full of life. She was

gentle and kind and lived a full and satisfying life surrounded by the

love of her family and friends. Her goal was to live to be 100, and

she almost made it. Ann will be greatly missed by her family and

friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, October 15, 2015

the chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 717 West 32nd Avenue, Pine

Bluff, Ark. with Rev. Susan Wiggins officiating.

Private interment will be held in the Graceland Cemetery, Pine Bluff.

Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.
