Mrs. Mary Marie Smith was born March 5, 1932 in Pine Bluff, the daughter of the late Annie and Joe King, Sr. , she was called home to the Lord on Friday, February 6, 2015.
Mary Marie graduated valedictorian from Coleman High School. She was especially proud of her perfect attendance throughout high school. Marie moved to Detroit, MI where she lived for 60 years. The Lord blessed her with two children, Melva and Freddie, whom she loved very much. Early in life, she was married to James Christian for 16 years. Later, she wed Robert Smith and they were together for 10 years. Both Men preceded her in death. Marie retired from the US Postal Service after 31 years of dedicated service.
Her greatest pleasures were cultivating plants, sewing beautiful clothes, traveling, and spending time with her family. She moved to Apopka, FL, living at Emeritus in Memory Care near her daughter and son in law David for the past 2 years.
Marie is survived by a multitude of family and friends, including her siblings Lenora Barnes and Joe King, Jr; her children Melva (David) Ross and Frederick King; her grandchildren Cedrick (Natasha) Young, Mariea (Daniel) Estrada and Donovan Ross.
Her services will be Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Greater Ward Chapel AME Church at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Charlene N. Boone eulogizing. Internment will be in Forrest Lawn Cemetery by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.
THE BODY WILL LIE IN STATE AT THE CHURCH FROM 9:30 a.m. UNTIL TIME OF SERVICE.
