WOODLAWN – James Rodger Vent, age 91, of Woodlawn, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Pink Bud Nursing Home in Greenwood, Arkansas. He was born December 17, 1923 in Cleveland County, a son of the late James E. Vent and Willie Rodgers Vent. Mr Vent served in the Navy on the USS Barnes during World War II. He played his fiddle with the Sunshine Band and always has a passion for music, some of his favorites were, Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys Band and western swing. Mr. Vent raised cattle, farmed, worked at Hudson Paper Company and did construction. His hobbies include metal detecting, coin collecting and reading history. He was a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Henderson Vent; brother, Carlton Lee Vent and an infant brother.
Left to cherish his memory are two daughters, June Lawson and spouse, Robert of Woodlawn, Linda Austin and spouse, Larry of Mansfield; Werdna Vent Erwin of Pine Bluff; four grandchildren, Tracy Austin Ballew and spouse , Jimmy, Ashley Austin Monks and spouse Todd, Crystal Lawson Wheelus and spouse Ashley, Candace Church; five great grandchildren, Lauren Ballew White and spouse, Ryan, Cody Lunsford, Magen Monks, Carter Monks, Kyle Wheelus; one great-grandchild, Khloe Lunsford; niece, Sharon Erwin Nelson and nephew, Ronnie Erwin.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Friday, January 16, 2015 at the funeral home. Funeral services are 10 a.m., Saturday, January 17, 2015 with Brother Jackie Richardson officiating, burial to follow in Friendship Cemetery at Woodlawn. Pallbearers are Ronnie Erwin, Benny Dixon, Ronald Dixon, Bobby Lee Terry, Roth Rabb, Joe Bob Lynn and Billy K. Henderson. The family expresses special appreciation for care given by Pink Bud Nursing Home and Mercy Hospice. Arrangements are by Buie Funeral Home if Rison.
