Funeral services for J.D. (Jake) Mays, 74, of Pine Bluff passed August 31 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Services will be Saturday 11 a.m. at New Community Baptist Church with Apostle Patrick Lockett.
He was born May 27, 1939 in Sherrill, Ark., son of the late Alex and Enda Mays.
He was reared and educated in Sherrill, Ark., and later moved to Pine Bluff with his family. He worked for the railroad for a short time, he also was a mechanic.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sadie Lockett Mays, son Kenneth Mays, his parents.
Survivors include three sons, Edward (Yolanda) Bulter of Menifee, Calif., Lafayette Allen of Chicago, Ill., Calvin (Michelle) Mays of Las Crues, N.M.; two daughters, Brenda (Marcus) Isreal of Sparkman, Ark., Marisha Mays Spencer of Pine Bluff; one brother, Alexander (Vera) Mays of Applevalley, Calif.; two sisters, Brenda (Matthew) Spiller of Newman, Ga., Vera Corgle of Cleveland, Ohio; two grandsons he raised, LaShun (Shawneil) Allen of Pine Bluff, Curtis (Cynthia) Richmond of Auroia, Colo., fifteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation may be made Friday, 5-6 p.m at the funeral home. Burial will be in P K Miller Cemetery. Services by Perry Funeral Home.
