Rosie Porchia


On January 28, 2012, Rosie “Pick” Porchia surrendered her will to God’s, and went home to be with the Lord. The life of Rosie “Pick” Porchia began December 6, 1923. She was the tenth of eleven children born to the union of the late Amos and Delia Lovell. Five sisters and three brothers preceded her in death.

She received her education in the public schools of Pine Bluff, and was employed at Grider Field during WWII.

Mrs. Porchia was a faithful member of the Saint Peter’s Rock Missionary Baptist Church for more than 60 years. She served on the usher board, the mission society, and went to Sunday School.

“Pick” was also an avid gardner as well as a member of the Marchette Social and Sewing Club.

She is preceded in death by three children, Powell Porchia, Bobby Ray Porchia and Marylyn Sue Patterson.

She is survived by her son Clarence Lovell and daughter, Peggy (John) Matlock, both of Pine Bluff; two sisters Silverine Henry of Flint, Mich. and Geraldine Holt of Pine Bluff; a faithful play son, Donald Ray Wilkins of Pine Bluff; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, February 3, 2012 at the Saint Peter’s Rock Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Darren Edgerson officiating. Interment will be at the Graceland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. at the P.K. Miller Mortuary.

Mrs. Porchia will lie in repose at the church, Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
