Proponents urge support for Shot Spotter

A petition drive has begun in Pine Bluff asking residents to support the Shot Spotter technology for use by the Pine Bluff Police Department as an anti-crime program. The program helps detect the location of gunshots.

“We are encouraging citizens to call the mayor’s office and their council member asking them to support the Shot Spotter technology,” said Henry Hellums Sr., pastor Truth and Love Worship Center.

“Neighborhood gunfire remains a major problem in Pine Bluff, however the city administration appears to be pushing back on a much needed tool to fight crime and violence. Therefore, all citizens should contact the mayor’s office and ask him to support Shot Spotter.”

According to a press release from Interested Citizens for Voter Registration and Pine Bluff Weed and Seed, the technology can protect police officers and reduce crime, making neighborhoods safe from random gunfire.

“Shot Spotter not only helps to save lives but as gun violence is reduced in Pine Bluff the quality of life increases which means property values increase and the community becomes more and more attractive for businesses,” the release said.
