A Pine Bluff woman was arrested Saturday following an investigation that began in November into an attempt to cash a check on a closed account.
Charlotte Stanley, 38, allegedly told police she did not know the victim and did not remember trying to cash the check, but said she was “on drugs at the time,” Pine Bluff Police Department Detective Billy Robertson said in a probable cause affidavit presented in district court Monday.
When shown a still photograph taken from a bank camera, Stanley acknowledged that she was the one in the picture; she also acknowledged that it was her signature on the check.
According to the affidavit, the female victim called police after receiving word from her bank that someone had tried to cash the check on Aug. 15, and when shown the photo of Stanley, said she did not know Stanley and never wrote a check to her.
Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $10,000 bond for Stanley after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge her with first-degree forgery.
Stanley said she would hire her own attorney.
